Vitrolife: Two Lung Transplantations Performed In Manchester Using New Technology

The University Hospital of Manchester, England, is now the first clinic outside Sweden to have used the STEEN Solution? method clinically. Two double lung transplantations have been performed with positive results.

UPMC Performs Its First Paired Kidney Transplant

UPMC participated in its first kidney paired donation on Dec. 10 in collaboration with Temple University Hospital and the Paired Donation Network. The couples, a husband and wife from Pittsburgh and two sisters from Philadelphia, donated kidneys to each others’ loved ones in a two-way surgical swap on Wednesday. Such paired exchanges are still uncommon. All donors and recipients are recovering well.

New Technology Revolutionises Organ Allocation Process

A new software system developed to speed up the process of allocating donated organs for transplant has already helped to save lives. The first 15 offerings of organs for transplantation have been completed using the Electronic Offering System (EOS). Based on these early successes in Cambridge and Manchester, the system will now be introduced across the country.
