Topigen Pharmaceuticals Moves Novel Inhaled Pde Inhibitor, TPI 1100, Into Clinical Development For COPD

TOPIGEN Pharmaceuticals Inc., a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company focused in respiratory disorders, today announced that it has received a clinical trial approval (CTA) letter to move TPI 1100, a drug candidate for the treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), into clinical development in 2009. TPI 1100 is a novel, inhaled inhibitor against phosphodiesterases (PDEs), PDE 4 and PDE 7. PDEs are a group of enzymes that are validated targets for COPD.

Researchers Identify Gene Linked To Inherited Form Of Fatal Lung Disease

Researchers at UT Southwestern Medical Center have determined that a mutation in a gene known for its role in defending the lungs against invading pathogens is responsible for some inherited cases of a lethal lung disease affecting older adults. The same mutation may also be associated with lung cancer, the researchers said. This is the third gene that UT Southwestern scientists have linked with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, or IPF.
