RACGP Awards Honour Outstanding Contributions To Australian General Practice

General practitioners and others who have made a contribution to Australian general practice have been recognised by The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) with Life Fellowship, Honorary Fellowship and Honorary Membership of the college. These awards will be presented at the RACGP Academic Session, during the Wonca Asia Pacific Regional Conference/RACGP Annual Scientific Convention (ASC) 2008, held at Melbourne Town Hall, on Thursday, 2 October 2008.

GP’s Work Together To Improve Services For Patients In Sheffield

Sheffield patients are set to benefit from a more efficient healthcare service, thanks to the work of a group of local GPs and Practice Managers. Over the past year the Central Sheffield GP Consortium, made up of 27 practices, has saved more than £823,000 by working to provide a better service for their patients, through effective referral management and prescribing more cost-effective, evidence-based medication.

Medical Protection Society Launches Advice Guide For Doctors On Dealing With Media

Doctors are frequently approached by the media for comment and they in turn seek advice from MPS (Medical Protection Society) on how best to reply whilst respecting patient confidentiality. Responding to this need for advice, MPS has today launched its Media Handling Guide. The guide has been developed as a tool for all doctors to refer to when dealing with the media and is also available to all Trusts and Practice Managers.

Eli Lilly Will Begin Disclosing Payments Exceeding $500 Made To Individual Physicians

Eli Lilly next year will become the first drugmaker to voluntarily disclose all payments more than $500 made to individual physicians for advice, speeches and other services, CongressDaily reports (CongressDaily, 9/24). Lilly eventually will disclose payments to physicians for travel, entertainment and gifts. The drugmaker was also the first to disclose its educational grants for medical conferences.
