NeurogesX Announces FDA Acceptance To Review New Drug Application For NGX-4010 To Treat Post Herpetic Neuralgia

NeurogesX, Inc. (Nasdaq: NGSX), a biopharmaceutical company focused on developing and commercializing novel pain management therapies, announced that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has accepted its New Drug Application (NDA) to review its investigational product candidate, NGX-4010, for the management of pain due to post-herpetic neuralgia (PHN).

KAI-1678, First-in-Class Compound, Enters Phase 2a Clinical Testing For The Treatment Of Pain

KAI Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a privately held drug discovery and development company, today announced the Company has initiated enrollment in a Phase 2a clinical study of KAI-1678 in patients with moderate to severe postoperative pain following total hip or total knee replacement. KAI-1678, a first-in-class, isozyme-selective, small peptide inhibitor of the epsilon protein kinase C pathway (epsilon PKC), has been shown to be safe and well-tolerated in Phase 1 testing.

Major Pain Research Funding Decline At NIH

Federal funding for pain research is declining sharply, more than 9 percent a year since 2003, according to a new study published in The Journal of Pain. Pain research, as a result, now accounts for only 0.6 percent of all grants awarded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), despite the high prevalence of chronic pain in the U.S.
