Health Secretary Praises MS Society At Charity Launch, UK

The Secretary of State for Health, Alan Johnson MP, praised the work of the MS Society at a reception to launch the charity partnership of the MS Society and British Energy for 2008-09. The reception, held at the Houses of Parliament on 18 November, played host to a number of key politicians and representatives from the two organisations. Alan Johnson MP, said: “I am delighted that British Energy employees have chosen the MS Society as their charity of the year.

Patients With ALS Do Not Benefit From Growth Hormone

A growth hormone that had shown some promise for treating people with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) showed no benefit in a new study published in the November 25, 2008, issue of Neurology, the medical journal of the American Academy of Neurology. Two previous, shorter studies using growth hormone insulin-like growth factor-1, or IGF-1, to treat ALS had conflicting results.

Woodlands Respite Care Centre Wins Awards - MS Society, UK

Woodlands, the MS Society’s respite care centre in York, has been recognised by two significant awards. The centre, which provides vital respite to people with and affected by multiple sclerosis (MS), is one of four sites across the country managed by the MS Society.
