Peer Review For Medicos Promoted By Australian Pilot Study

Junior Medical Officers will be aided in their professional development by their peers, as part of a pilot study put together by staff of the Medical School at The Australian National University. The project, being undertaken with Melbourne’s Southern Health, aims to develop a kit that Junior Medical Officers (JMOs) can use to self-assess their own strengths across a range of professional competencies.

Training Surgeons From The Video Game Generation - Study To See If Using Computer Animation Can Make Young Surgeons Better

The first generation of kids who grew up playing video games aren’t kids anymore. Today, they’re the backbone of the American workforce, and all that time playing games as kids, may be helping them now as adults. In fact, researchers hope to use computer animation to not only help train the next generation of surgeons, but to see how good they can really be.

Statement: GMC Welcomes Emphasis On Education And Training In Lord Darzi’s Final Report Of The NHS Next Stage Review

Following a request from the Secretary of State for Health, Lord Darzi has conducted a wide-ranging review of the NHS, the final report of this review is launched. The General Medical Council is the independent regulator of the medical profession in the UK, with responsibility for regulating doctors’ practice including overseeing undergraduate medical education and co-ordinating all stages of medical education and training.

Australian Medical Association Welcomes Application Of Screening Exam For International Medical Graduates

The Australian Medical Association today welcomed the application of the screening exam for international medical graduates (IMGs) coming to work in Australia. AMA Vice President, Dr Gary Speck, said the additional assessment will reassure Australians that they will continue to get the best possible medical care from these doctors.

Pfizer To Eliminate Direct Financial Support For Continuing Medical Education Programs Offered By For-Profit Companies

Pfizer officials recently announced that the company will no longer provide direct financial support for continuing medical education courses offered by for-profit medical education and communication companies, the Wall Street Journal reports.

Patients’ Safety Not Compromised By Cut To Junior Doctors’ Hours In UK

Research led by a team at the University of Warwick’s Warwick Medical School has found that reducing the hours of junior doctors does not compromise patients’ safety and could even dramatically cut mistakes on wards but, there are some concerns about reduced educational opportunities for junior doctors which it affords.

American Medical Association Adopts Strategies To Help Address Medical Student Debt - New Policies Aim To Help Relieve Physician Shortage

The American Medical Association (AMA) today adopted new policy to help address the increasing medical student debt burden at its Annual Meeting. Over the last 15 years, the cost of a public school medical education has doubled and private school tuition has increased by 133 percent. Upon graduation, the average medical student has a debt of $140,000.
