More Than 500 Backlogged Whistle-Blower Cases Allege Health Care, Drug Company Fraud

Whistle-blower lawsuits alleging that pharmaceutical companies and government contractors defrauded the federal government have created a backlog of more than 900 cases at the Department of Justice, the Washington Post reports.

Man Sentenced For Dealing In Counterfeit Medicines Worth At Least 1.8million Pounds

Mr Viraj Shah (37) of 33 Oakfield Avenue, Kenton, Harrow, Middlesex HA3 8TH was sentenced to 51 weeks imprisonment, suspended for two years, and to 40 hours community service for dealing in counterfeit medicines. Mr Shah appeared at Kingston Crown Court following an investigation by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA).

Double Jobbing Nurse Cautioned For Dishonesty, UK

A 32 year old registered nurse from Newcastle upon Tyne has been cautioned by the independent Conduct and Competence Committee panel for the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) for dishonesty. Herdwick Mushava was issued with a five year caution order by her profession’s regulator after admitting one offence of deception by fraudulently claiming sickness pay, for which she received a police caution. Mushava received £1059.

State Acts To Delay As Pharmacy Lawsuit To Stop The 10 Percent Medi-Cal Provider Cuts Is Moved To Federal Court

The Schwarzenegger Administration, in an eleventh hour move, took action to delay a hearing on a temporary restraining order (TRO) sought by eight retail community pharmacies to stop the ten percent Medi-Cal provider cuts from taking effect on July 1, 2008. On June 9, 2008, eight California pharmacies filed an action in state court seeking to restrain DHCS from implementing a ten percent reduction in pharmacy reimbursements for prescriptions dispensed to Medi-Cal beneficiaries.

Amorous Nurse Struck Off, UK

A 57 year old registered nurse from Romney Marsh, Kent has been struck off the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) register for inappropriate behaviour towards a patient. Jeremy Peters was employed at Hillside Hospital, a rehabilitation unit for people with mental health problems in Hastings, Sussex in 2006.
