NM Tech, Biomoda Win Legislative Support For Lung Cancer Screening

The New Mexico State Legislature’s Interim Tobacco Settlement Committee has recommended $730,000 in funding to continue a pilot program to screen veterans for early-stage lung cancer. The request in favor of the clinical study administered by the New Mexico Department of Veterans Services (NMDVS) came from the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology (NM Tech) and Biomoda, Inc.

NICE Issues Guidance On The Use Of Erlotinib For The Treatment Of Non-Small-Cell Lung Cancer

The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) has today (26 November) published final guidance on the use of erlotinib for the treatment of non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The guidance recommends erlotinib as an alternative to docetaxel for people who have already tried one chemotherapy regimen but it has not worked.

Women Smokers’ Longevity Cut By 14.5 Years Because Of Smoking

One in every five adult women in the United States still smokes, even though smoking takes an average of 14.5 years off their lives, says the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG). ACOG said that approximately 438,000 men and women in the USA die prematurely as a result of smoking directly or passively - add to this total about 8.6 million people who have developed serious, preventable illnesses as a result of smoking.
