The Effectiveness Of Probiotics In IBS

Several studies presented at the American College of Gastroenterology’s 73rd Annual Scientific Meeting in Orlando highlight the safety and efficacy of probiotics in improving symptoms and normalizing bowel movement frequency in patients suffering from constipation or diarrhea related to Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS).

BUSM Lecture To Honor Victim Of 9/11 Tragedy

Boston University School of Medicine (BUSM) will present The Seventh Annual Sue Kim Hanson Lecture in Immunology on Friday, September 12, 2008 at noon in the School’s Keefer Auditorium. The annual lecture is in honor of Sue Kim Hanson, MA, PhD ‘02, a former researcher in BUSM’s Pulmonary Center. Kim Hanson, along with her husband and daughter, were passengers on United Airline flight 175, the second plane that struck the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001.

Drugs For Acute Severe Ulcerative Colitis Assessed

The National Institute for Health Research Health Technology Assessment (NIHR HTA) programme has funded a £1.6 million clinical trial to compare two powerful drugs for people with steroid resistant acute severe ulcerative colitis (UC). UC affects approximately 150,000 people in the UK and is a major burden on patients and NHS resources, as it often leads to severe morbidity, grossly impaired quality of life, frequent and long inpatients stays and emergency colectomy.
