GlaxoSmithKline To Reduce Price Of HPV Vaccine Cervarix In South Africa

GlaxoSmithKline on Wednesday announced it will reduce the cost of its human papillomavirus vaccine Cervarix in South Africa, SAPA/Independent Online reports. GSK will reduce the price of the vaccine from 700 South African rand per dose, or about $67, to 450 rand per dose, or about $43.

BD Diagnostics, a segment of BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company) (NYSE: BDX), announced today that it received U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Premarket Approval (PMA) for the BD FocalPoint(TM) GS Imaging System. This innovative new system is designed to enhance cervical cancer screening for cytology laboratories using the BD SurePath(TM) Pap test slides to detect evidence of squamous carcinoma, adenocarcinoma and their usual precursor conditions.

Black Women With Cervical Cancer Appear To Have Fewer Chemotherapy-Related Side Effects Than White Women, Study Finds

Black women who have advanced and recurrent cervical cancer seem to have fewer side effects from a commonly used form of chemotherapy than white women, according to a study published in the November issue of the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Reuters Health reports.
