CryoLife Announces First Implant Of Combination Aortic-Mitral Allograft Heart Valve At The Cleveland Clinic

CryoLife, Inc. (NYSE: CRY), a biomaterials, medical device and tissue processing company, announced the first implantation of the combination aortic-mitral allograft heart valve in a patient at the Cleveland Clinic. New Device For Elderly With Heart Valve Failure - Less-Invasive Procedure For Those Previously Untreatable

Bayer Pulls Remaining Stocks Of Trasylol

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced yesterday, Wednesday 14th May, that Bayer Pharmaceuticals Corporation is withdrawing remaining stocks of its antifibrinolytic drug Trasylol (aprotinin) following the confirmation of the preliminary findings of a study that showed the drug increased risk of death compared to two other drugs used to control bleeding during heart surgery.

Beta-blocker drugs may help prevent heart attacks during surgery, but they may increase the risk of death and major stroke, says a major study to be published online by the prestigious medical journal, The Lancet.POISE is the world’s largest randomized trial addressing perioperative cardiac complications.
