RhuDex(R) Achieves Positive Results In Clinical Phase IIa Trial

Active Biotech AB’s (OMX Nordic:ACTI) collaboration partner MediGene AG (Frankfurt, Prime Standard: MDG) has achieved its objectives in a clinical phase IIa trial of the candidate drug RhuDex® for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis. In addition to positive safety data and the good adsorption after oral administration, a first indication of biological activity of RhuDex® was observed.

Patients Taking Cymbalta® Reported Reduced Pain Severity Of Osteoarthritis Of The Knee In New Study

New data suggest that patients with osteoarthritis pain of the knee treated with 60 mg and 120 mg Cymbalta (duloxetine HCl) once daily experienced significant pain reduction. Patients taking duloxetine reported significant pain improvement compared to placebo within the first week of treatment that lasted throughout the 13-week trial.(1) Results from the study of 231 patients were presented at the annual congress of the European League Against Rheumatism (EULAR) in Paris, France.

Centocor, Inc. Submits Application To FDA Requesting Approval Of Golimumab For The Treatment Of Rheumatoid Arthritis

Centocor, Inc. announced that a Biologics License Application (BLA) has been submitted to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) requesting the approval of golimumab (CNTO 148) as a monthly subcutaneous treatment for adults with active forms of rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis.

Evidence For An Increased Cancer Risk Following The Use Of Radioactive Radium-224 In The Therapy For Ankylosing Spondylitis

In the course of an epidemiological study, scientists of the Institute of Radiation Biology of the Helmholtz Zentrum Munchen German Research Center for Environmental Health have established an unfavourable benefit-risk-ratio for ankylosing spondylitis patients treated with Radium-224 therapy (Rheumatology 2008; 47: 855-59). Researchers Say Hip Replacement Is Cost-Effective With No Age Limit For Benefits To Patients

Seniors with osteoarthritis who undergo total hip replacement are twice as likely as those who do not to show improvements in physical functioning and increased ability to care for themselves, according to researchers at Duke University Medical Center.The study, which is the largest of its kind conducted to date, found that there is no age limit on the benefits of hip replacement for patients.

Joint Damage Is Inhibited With Enbrel® (Etanercept) Plus Methotrexate In Patients With Early Active Rheumatoid Arthritis

Data presented recently show that 80% of patients with early active rheumatoid arthritis achieved radiographic remission (or non-progression defined as a change in TSS≤0.5) at one year when treated with Enbrel (etanercept) and methotrexate, compared to 59% when treated with methotrexate alone1.

Cimzia® Is The First Anti-TNF Shown To Inhibit Progression Of Joint Damage As Early As 16 Weeks In Rheumatoid Arthritis

UCB has announced new data showing that Cimzia® (certolizumab pegol), the only PEGylated, Fc-Free anti-TNF (Tumor Necrosis Factor), combined with methotrexate (MTX), significantly inhibits progression of joint damage in patients with active rheumatoid arthritis (RA) as early as 16 weeks after the start of treatment.
