PTSD Symptoms After Sudden Heart Events Associated With Increased Mortality Risk

In patients who receive implantable cardiac defibrillators after a sudden heart event, there is a higher likelihood of death within five years if they experience symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder, according to a report released on November 3, 2008 in Archives of General Psychiatry, one of the JAMA/Archives journals.

NIMH Funded Study Demonstrates That 3 Treatments Work For Childhood And Adolescent Anxiety Disorders

A study presented at the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP) 55th Annual Meeting in Chicago demonstrates three treatments are effective in treating anxiety disorders in children and adolescents.

Link Between Adult Crime And Childhood Anxiety

Being nervous, socially isolated, anxious or neurotic during childhood protects young men from becoming criminal offenders until they enter adulthood, but the protective effect seems to wear off after the age of 21. These are the findings of Dr. Georgia Zara, from the University of Turin in Italy, and Dr. David Farrington, from the University of Cambridge in the UK, who explored whether or not certain childhood factors delay the onset of criminal behavior until adulthood.
