Glivec Receives US Approval As First Treatment To Reduce Risk Of Cancer Returning In Patients With Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumors

Novartis announced that Glivec® (imatinib) has been approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the post-surgery treatment of adult patients following complete surgical removal of Kit (CD117)-positive gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST). Glivec is now the only post-surgery treatment indicated to delay the return of this highly aggressive cancer, filling a major need for GIST patients.
