Excess Winter Deaths Remain Low In 2007/08, UK
In the winter period (December to March) of 2007/08 there were an extra 25,300 deaths in England and Wales, compared to the average for the non-winter periods, according to provisional estimates published today in the Office for National Statistics journal Health Statistics Quarterly. This was a rise of 7 per cent compared with the winter of 2006/07, when there were 23,740 excess winter deaths.
