EnteregŪ (alvimopan) capsules is now available to registered hospitals for helping patients recover gastrointestinal (GI) function earlier following bowel resection surgery. Entereg was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on May 20, 2008, and is the first FDA-approved treatment for postoperative ileus (POI), a condition that affects almost all patients undergoing this type of surgery.
