The NHS surplus in England demonstrates the hard work of NHS staff, but has also affected the quality of their training, the BMA says today in response to the Public Accounts committee report on NHS summarised accounts for 2006-7. The report says the creation of a £515 million surplus for the NHS in England was achieved partly by reducing central budgets for the training of doctors and other staff.
