Hispanics Encouraged To Become More Involved In Their Health Care

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) joined with The Advertising Council to launch a Spanish-language national public service campaign designed to encourage Hispanics to become more involved in their health care. The campaign urges Hispanics to stay healthy for their loved ones by visiting their doctor for regular screenings.

D-Pharm Completes Pre-IND Meeting With The FDA For Treatment Of Acute Stroke With DP-b99

D-Pharm announced that it has held its Pre-IND (Investigational New Drug) meeting with the FDA to discuss the forthcoming IND submission for DP-b99, a novel drug to aid recovery following acute stroke. The Pre-IND meeting focused on the proposed plans for the Phase III clinical program and the discussion included clinical trials to date, preclinical pharmacology, toxicology data and the FDA requirements and suggestions for the IND submission.

Second Chance Act Improves Mental Health Services For Prisoners, USA

The American Psychiatric Association applauds recent Congressional efforts led by Rep. Danny Davis, D-Ill., to improve treatment for the large number of people with mental illnesses and substance use disorders who are currently incarcerated in U.S. jails and prisons. The U.S. Senate passed the Second Chance Act (H.R. 1593) this week by unanimous consent. The U.S. House of Representatives passed the legislation last fall.

Cities At Risk For Terrorism Identified By BIO5 Researcher

A University of Arizona researcher has created a new system to dramatically show American cities their relative level of vulnerability to bioterrorism.Walter W. Piegorsch, an expert on environmental risk, has placed 132 major cities - from Albany, N.Y., to Youngstown, Ohio - on a color-coded map that identifies their level of risk based on factors including critical industries, ports, railroads, population, natural environment and other factors.
