Monitor And Support Patients On Varenicline

National Prescribing Service Limited (NPS) urges health professionals to be aware that some psychiatric symptoms have been reported with the use of varenicline (Champix) and advises them to monitor patients using varenicline for any behaviour and/or mood changes. Varenicline must be prescribed as part of a comprehensive program which includes smoking-cessation support and counselling to maximise its effectiveness.
