CDC Tries To Find Those Who Were Near TB Infected Women On Flight 293

On December 13th a woman who was sick with TB (tuberculosis) flew on American Airlines Flight 293 from New Delhi, India, to Chicago, USA. She then took another plane from Chicago to San Francisco. The infected woman is from Nepal and now lives in Sunnyvale, California. Those sitting next or near to her did not know she was infected and posed a danger to their health. The woman had been diagnosed with drug-resistant tuberculosis in India. [click link for full article]

AACN Establishes The Commission On Nurse Certification To Oversee The Credentialing Of Clinical Nurse Leaderssm

The Board of Directors of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) has moved to establish the Commission on Nurse Certification (CNC), a new credentialing body to oversee the certification of Clinical Nurse Leaders (CNLs). Composed of representatives from practice and academia, this new authority will lead the effort to certify graduates of master’s level nursing programs that prepare advanced generalists for practice across a variety of health care settings. New Course Provides Refresher And Certification For Surgeons Performing Laparoscopic Surgery

Attending general surgeons at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) will be required to prove basic motor skills outside an operating room before performing laparoscopic surgery on patients. Patients, Dentists Differ On Smile Ratings, JADA Study

People rate their smiles higher than dentists do, according to a new study. Teeth and eyes rated as the most important features of an attractive face, the study also found, and people younger than age 50 were most satisfied with their smiles. The study, published in this month’s Journal of the American Dental Association (JADA), asked 78 patients in Norway to rate their own smiles on a 100-point satisfaction scale. Laser Eye Surgery For High Myopia Works Well In Long Term, Study
