Consultant Physician Expansion Stalls, UK
The rise in Consultant Physician numbers from September 2005 to 2006 was only 1.8%, the smallest increase ever recorded in the annual census* since it began in 1991. Some specialties - clinical pharmacology and therapeutics, and immunology - have even lost posts since last year, and there are worrying reductions in numbers in some of the major specialties - dermatology and rheumatology.
